HOME to the source of Yoga in India, on the banks of the Ganga river...where
the Rishis left these teachings for us preserved in their purity
and universal salience. |
The 200+ hour course takes place over one month at Parmarth Niketan's
beautiful Yoga Hall, which has the Himalayan foothills to the East behind
it and the Ganga River outside in the West. This certificated course
covers required modules in Anatomy, Asana, Pranayama, Yoga Nidra, Shat
Karma, Philosophy, Ayurveda, Teaching methodology and Vedic Chanting.
The
training is conducted by a diverse range of luminaries on the subject
of Yoga from Rishikesh and from the U.S. who have committed their lives
to Yogic principles of service and compassion for humanity.
Studying Yoga in Rishikesh, India gives one a precious opportunity to
experience the support of living in an environment that has been dedicated
to unfoldment of the Yoga teachings for centuries. The
beautiful Parmarth Niketan ashram has also been
host to students and practitioners from around the world for many decades,
giving one an appreciation for the truly universal context of the practice
and of the sangha as mirrored through the many different countries represented
in the residential community. There is also the benefit of living in
a pure atmosphere where spiritual community and practice guide the rhythm
of the days and nights. Life at the ashram compellingly opens the heart
and deepens your ability to focus and grow in the essential, direct
experience of practice, and to immerse yourself in the holy environment
of Yogis from time immemorial. This intensive includes a trip to one
of the potent sites of origination of Yoga scriptures which are referenced
in the course. On our third week we will take a day trip on a Saturday
to the cave of the sage Vasistha near Rishikesh.

Thoughts for an aspiring teacher: "Teach to Learn"
The
axiom of "teach to learn" is an important guide for any aspiring
teacher to develop an understanding of their role as an instrument of
Yoga on behalf of others. Becoming a Yoga teacher requires an appreciation
for, what continues to be, an increasing willingness to "step out
of one's own way" and meet the needs of both the group and individual
student, with increasing familiarity towards the Yogic practices stemming
from one's own sadhana and consistent self-inquiry. Skilled knowledge
and analysis of the individual needs of students grow with experience
in the teaching role itself, coupled with growing a ripened heart of
service and deep respect for the universal techniques of Yoga which
give the infallible strength for healing and evolution to all who apply
them with sincerity and effort.
The 200-hour training is designed in accordance with modular components
set about by Yoga Alliance with an emphasis on experiential study of
traditional teachings from various schools of Yoga, including special
interest topics "being made re-visible" to
the Western world. Click

Over 200 contact hours with teachers help the YTT participant understand
themselves better in the context and practice of Yoga, and to apply
that knowledge and experience towards their growth. Furthermore, those
who have the calling to share the Yoga teachings and practices with
others will be given a greater understanding of how to assist students
with proper assessment of the special needs required by the individual
blend of body and constitution. Emphasis is given by all instructors
on practical and creative application of traditional and integral practices
blending Eastern and Western knowledge.
