Phaistos Disk, Crete ca. 1700BCE
Traveling has always led me to rediscover and
relink with the ancient places where human civilizations thrived in
relative harmony with the Earth. In this current age, where there
is a massive depletion of natural resources, precious animal and plant
species, and encroachment of human development on the wild places
which were once a source of inspiration and plenty for ancient peoples,
I feel that we have a unique responsibility to learn from and remember
the traditions which are left for our Witness by the land and our
collective ancestors. Their wisdom is so direly needed in this age,
in which increased technology and access to resources has outsped
our ability to evolve ethically and humbly in our relationships to
the precious Web of life.
Traveling is also important in these times
when there is so much misunderstanding between cultures perpetuated
by fear and ignorance, the mainstream media, and inevitably by the
individual refusal to relinquish notions of economic and political
"privilege" that keeps us blind to our common humanity.
Through my travels in different countries, I have personally been
a part of several incredible healing dialogues with people of different
backgrounds and faiths coming together through circumstance to break
down the lies and misanthropic hegemony of separatism that threatens
to thinly divide us, unless we can address those issues face-to-face
in a respectful and open way.
On a Time level there is, as both spiritual
and scientific traditions are pointing out, an urgency in how we respond
on an individual, consumer level to the increased awareness of the
effects our lifestyle has on our collective health as a planetary
community including All Our Relations. Remembering and visiting our
ancient places of heritage will help us to respect the role we humans
have in the determination of the quality of life that will continue
to manifest as we increase our knowledge of the physical world in
conjunction with the development of our Souls. The knowledge and ability
to artfully and authentically be in relationship to one another and
the material world is not so far back in our human history and memory!
