This trip has been lovingly crafted out of the relationships Phoenix has with several Dineh (Navajo) elders who are open to sharing themselves with sincere people who want to learn more about their traditions, and to explore the history the ancestors of the land and their places along the desert cliffs and canyons.

The weeklong journey through Sedona, Flagstaff area, and Navajo land includes seven Yoga classes, guided tours of Monument Valley and Canyon de Chelly, and visits to many ruins belonging to the Hopi, Navajo, Sinagua, and Hohokam peoples from up to a thousand years ago.

We will spend time with Navajo medicine woman Mary Williams in the Kayenta area, and you will be able to participate in a traditional sweatlodge ceremony led by Emerson Gorman at the end of the trip. (more details)

~Immerse yourself in Vinyasa and Iyengar Yoga- exploring the Yogic psyche with healing practices for the chakras, pranayama, chanting and meditation intensives, Greek history, swimming, bodywork, nutrition, day trips to local sites of interest and enjoying new friends at beautiful Triopetra beach in south Crete... (details)

Join experienced guide and Yoga teacher Phoenix Artemisia on a journey that will nourish your Spirit through twice-daily practices of pranayama, asana, and meditation, alongside the turquoise Libyan sea bordering the south coast of Crete. This Yoga retreat includes afternoon seminars on the "inner" body (chakras, koshas and nadis) and corresponding Yoga practices for energy and healing. You will also have the opportunity to take in bodywork and healing sessions, and to swim and hike around Triopetra, Agios Pavlos, Spili and Rethymno.

Retreatants fly in to Heraklion or Chania or can ferry to Rethymno--historic port towns of Crete--on June 6th. All transportation by taxis can be arranged for you to the retreat center from the airports at Heraklion or Chania(2 hours away), or from the ferry port at Rethymno (1 hour away) if needed.

Your first full day in Crete begins with a scenic drive along the mountainous north and central area, south to Triopetra Yoga Center on the rugged coast for a weeklong immersion in the practices of Yoga on the Libyan Sea. Located in the south of Crete, Triopetra has an oceanfront Yoga room with view of the sea, and ocean-facing balconies on all of the rooms. Enjoy 2 daily classes, optional morning and evening meditation, special classes on philosophy and deepen your art of living Yoga in daily life. There is ample free time to swim, go snorkelling in the incomparable, warm Mediterranean waters, or recieve a massage or acupuncture from one of the highly experienced and compassionate staff therapists. Meals at Triopetra are an incredible fusion of macrobiotic vegetarian Greek-inspired dishes, and Greek seafood and meat dishes are available at the nearby tavernas.

Through informal outdoor seminars you will also learn about Greek history and the preceding Minoan civilization of ancient Crete, which Phoenix dearly loves to share with participants. Minoan people had a powerful reliance on their land, gender balance in politics and religion, and were free from dependency on a system of monetary currency, yet ruled the Mediterranean trade routes of 3500 years ago for almost 1500 years. We will get to reflect on our evolving current time, in relation to Yogic principles and the examples in history evidenced by the things we are able to see of Minoan legacy in Crete.

The retreat center is famed for it’s peerless location on white sand beaches, gourmet organic vegetarian and seafood dishes, and also for it’s spacious and inspiring Yogashala and beautiful, traditional Palapa-style accomodations. Maya Tulum is in the vicinity of the Mayan citadels or Muyil and Coba, which we will visit on two separate excursions

Moksha Haiku

Peace is when the sky
has been subliminally
impressed on the mind

Grow, identity
of limitless light and love
within my deep Self

Today I begin
breath by breath to be as one
with all encountered

Rooster is crowing
coral-changing sky is felt
underneath the skin

my heart is rising
facing East to meet the Sun
tremulous new day

Whatever was left
behind is transparent past,
seedless perfection

I choose to regard
unfolding realities
as a precious gift

Haiku I

The happy moment
when you realize you're Here
starts with awareness

this process of Time
wieghs down on us like feathers
-a protective down,

and purposeful rise;
Valleys of the Sun and Moon,
Keep us wayfarers

humble to your paths,
seeking the frankincense tree
and the red mountains

Haiku II

In the black-blue night
an owl salutes the full moon
and empty meadows

Tensing in beauty
the land tightens and glowers,
an unstruck drum skin

relentless mind stops
recognizing sanity-
a friendly owl's cry

spirit-painted wings
armistice of ancestors
appear as white skulls

emerging from folds
of the tree-brown camouflage
on the hunter's wing

chasing down my soul
vulnerable, soft focus
grateful morning time

please return to me
this awareness of night
as favored ally

for here I would stay
listening; opaque freedom,
prophecy of rain

am I not the Earth?
for my ears hear what's coming
well in advance, too-

It is time to grow
deeper down, deeper down still
stillness, deeper down
